In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 340 employees and approximately 450 million SEK in total assets
Duties
The researcher position will be linked to a research project focusing on immunological assessments of preoperative biopsies to improve the diagnostics of rectal cancer to thereby individualize the treatment regimes. The methods that will be used in the project include multicolor immunohistochemistry, proteomics on cell lysates, bioinformatics and analyses of multiplex IHC. The candidate is also expected to supervise students at both master's and doctoral level and to apply for research grants.
Qualifications
To qualify the applicant should have a Ph.D. in relevant subject such as immunology or tumor biology. The applicant should have knowledge or interest in the field of cancer research, practical laboratory experience within immunology and/or cancer research is a requirement. Highly proficient in spoken and written English is necessary. Extensive experience in immunohistochemistry, proteomics, bioinformatics as well as in depth knowledge of multiplex IHC analyses are highly valued. Documented knowledge within cancer in the gastrointestinal tract, experience of supervision and teaching is an advantage. It is expected that you can conduct research in a highly independent manner. We value a candidate who is driven, organizational, meticulous and effective and independent. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability as the project is conducted in collaboration with other researchers.
Employment
The employment is full time and temporary, 4 months, with placement at the Institute of biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
