Role Summary

As Chief Data Engineer, you lead Scania’s Commercial Data Engineering team to build and operate reliable, secure, and cost-efficient data products and pipelines that power BI, analytics, and AI. You define engineering standards and reusable blueprints, deliver on AWS/Snowflake/dbt, and establish robust DataOps for lifecycle, observability, compliance, and SLAs.

Job Responsibilities

Lead and grow the Data Engineering team; define ways of working aligned to business needs and Data Mesh infrastructure

Develop, publish, and maintain engineering standards and blueprints (coding/testing, dbt conventions, CI/CD, schema/versioning, observability)

Deliver high-quality data products optimized for BI, AI and analytics

Implement pipelines and controls for retention, PII handling, access frameworks, and auditability; automate policy enforcement

Establish and operate DataOps tooling; enable self-service via platform templates

Operate pipelines from ingestion to serving; implement runbooks, incident response, reliability patterns

Own data product lifecycle; manage SLAs, cost-to-serve, capacity; align with governance and migration/decommission plans

Monitor lineage, freshness, completeness, drift, health, cost, and usage; publish KPIs

Run feedback loops with producers/consumers; drive continuous improvement

Support domain teams building data products; coach on data quality rankings and SLOs

Lead a Data Engineering Community of Practice

Useful skills & experiences

6+ years in data engineering with 3+ years leading data engineering teams

Proven delivery of pipelines and data products on AWS, dbt, and Snowflake; knowledge of Azure.

Advanced proficiency with dbt and modern ELT/ETL; strong in CI/CD

Experience establishing Data Mesh and DataOps

Strong stakeholder management and coaching

Experience with external data sources as products is a plus

Bachelor’s/Master’s in engineering or other relevant field

Proficiency in English
